Marc Zelsmann was born in Grenoble, France, in 1976.

He received the M.S. degree in applied physics from the University Claude Bernard and the Ecole Centrale, Lyon, France in 2000 and the Ph.D. degree from the University Joseph Fourier, Grenoble, France, in 2003.

He received the Ph.D. degree for the investigation of silicon on insulator (SOI) photonic crystal devices including waveguides, cavities and light extractors.

In 2004 and 2005, he joined the Photonics Nanostrucrures Group in the Tyndall National Institute, Cork, Ireland, conducting research on nanoimprint lithography for the fabrication of polymer optical components.

Since September 2005, he has been a researcher with the Laboratoire des Technologies de la Microelectronique – CNRS, Grenoble, France, working on alternative lithography technologies (nanoimprint lithography, directed self-assembly of di-block copolymers, capillary force assembly).
